Acid Fuchsin, also known as Hungarian Red, is an excellent stain for the enhancement of bloody fingerprints or footwear impressions.  It is safer than some other methods due to its water-based formula.  Acid Fuchsin is for use on most porous and non-porous surfaces. It should never be used on paper, bed sheets, upholstery, or any other absorbent surfaces.

Before using Acid Fuchsin, the prints or footwear impressions must be set to prevent loss of detail.  Our selection of Acid Fuchsin has a fixative included in the solution and does not require any additional steps before use.

There are two different methods to use Acid Fuchsin.  First, a user may submerge the item into an appropriate container of the solution.  Alternately, the solution could be placed into a bottle and sprayed onto the item.  After the Acid Fuchsin has set, it should be rinsed with water or our Acid Fuchsin Rinse/Destain.

The print must be lifted at this point with an appropriate sized Rubber/Gelatin lifter.  We suggest our White Rubber/Gelatin Hinged Latent Print Lifters.  To view the lifted print, use a forensic light source in a dark room.  Acid Fuchsin fluoresces well between 515 and 560 nanometers.  At this point, the print should be photographed using a red barrier filter.

Note: Though not usual, our dyes and stains, depending on the quantity ordered, may require an additional hazardous shipping charge be added. We will contact you if this is the case.
