OUR HISTORY
Our name, Tri-Tech, reflects our company birthplace: the ‘Research Triangle’ in Raleigh, North Carolina, an area encompassing several major universities and medical research centers, as well as many progressive businesses. This was an ideal location to begin manufacturing medical and laboratory equipment. As the company evolved, the original founder of the business experienced first-hand the communications gap between the law enforcement professionals collecting evidence in the field, the medical professionals collecting evidence from the victim, and the laboratory professionals attempting to process the collected evidence. With roots in all three areas, Tri-Tech was ideally suited to provide a link between crime scenes, medical arenas, and laboratories. Extensive research revealed a lack of uniformity in forensics collection procedures and a pressing need for structure and consistency when various agencies worked together on a particular case. Thus, Tri-Tech began developing forensic evidence collection kits, which today remain the gold standard in the industry.
In 1994, Tri-Tech moved from the Research Triangle to Southport, North Carolina, designing a building to specifically produce forensic evidence collection products under strictly controlled, proprietary processes. Incorporating an ultra-modern manufacturing area and our own in-house printing facility, Tri-Tech focused on expanding its product line to meet the growing needs of its customer base. Starting with our groundbreaking sexual assault evidence collection kits, our line grew to include customized DNA collections kits, gunshot residue collection kits, blood alcohol collection kits, and many more related evidence collection products.
In 2003, Tri-Tech acquired Criminal Research Products (CRP) and added CRP’s crime scene investigation products to our growing line of collection kits. These additions included fingerprinting equipment, latent print collection supplies, and crime scene investigation tools. Today, Tri-Tech's Atomic Latent Print Powders are manufactured at our new Leland headquarters by skilled technicians, enabling us to add enhanced formulas and colors to the original line. As technology and collection methods change, we continue to add to our line of evidence collection and preservation supplies, providing the latest and best tools for our customers.
In 2008, the founding family members of the business retired, and Tri-Tech, Inc., became Tri-Tech Forensics (TRITECHFORENSICS) after it was acquired by a private investment firm knowledgeable in the law enforcement market. Our company remains the strongest in our industry, as our employees have many years of experience in the evidence collection and law enforcement arenas.
2012 brought an exciting new division to Tri-Tech: Digital Forensics (TTDF). Focusing on efficacy, accuracy, and scalability, TTDF’s Momentum Digital Forensics products are built with the best and latest technology platforms and components and offer all the components necessary to build a state-of-the-art digital forensics lab. TTDF continues to expand, offering cutting-edge products at terrific prices, with solutions including our unique DataCenter Lab Solutions and Mobile Interview Kit. GSA Scheduled Pricing was added to many DF products in 2014, allowing for an easy and quick ordering process. To better meet the needs of digital forensic professionals desiring additional information on our products, TRITECHFORENSICS created a DF-only website, tritechdf.com, providing a one-stop location for DF division data.
In 2013, TRITECHFORENSICS launched its Training Division, created to meet the needs of modern forensic professionals who want to expand their investigation and evidence collection skills. With courses ranging from Crime Scene Investigations to Fingerprinting to Understanding Terrorism and more, Tri-Tech Training provides world-class, experienced forensic instructors in an agency’s own location. Our instructors have many years of experience and many serve on prestigious boards, such as the IAI, the Pennsylvania State Coroner’s Association, and the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysis. Several have written books and manuals for their areas of expertise. Our training website, tritechtraining.com, includes upcoming courses, instructor bios, white papers, and course descriptions.
